ABOUT DEVELOPING TRAY

Developing Tray is back! This popular program, originally developed by Bob Moy and then by the Inner London Education Computing Centre (ILECC), has been rewritten taking advantage of modern operating systems by 2Simple Software and The IT Learning Exchange. For those who don’t remember the original, it treats a piece of text like a picture in a photographer’s developing tray. You can choose how much or how little of the text is displayed and get your learners involved in discussing and predicting what the missing letters and words might be, gradually building up ideas about the subject matter and revealing more and more of the text.

Developing Tray is a powerful way of developing reading strategies. The aim is to predict text from limited clues. You have various opportunities to make the task of prediction easier but the reward system favours predicting letters over buying them.
Developing Tray works well in a group where the discussion generated broadens the language experience to include listening and talking as well as reading and writing.

The editor allows you to insert any text and set it up ready for use. Additionally we supply you with over 50 sample texts and a teaching aid "Ripe for Development" which is designed to assist you with using these texts in the classroom

We hope that you find developing tray brings texts to life at your school. It works well with all ages and abilities. For a detailed overview on Developing Tray,
